Yugoslav Partisans

Updated: Mar 28, 2020

My parents, Marko and Izabel Bastianic were born in the west part of Yugoslavia, modern Croatia, which in WW2 was allied with the Nazis and under Benito Mussolini's rule.

After WW1, Labin, like the entirety of Istra, became part of the kingdom of Italy and remained so until 1943, so, in WW2 Labin was pressed under the fascist regime of Benito Mussolini.

"He brought in teachers from Italy, who were beautiful and young. While our mothers smelt like cattle and tended in the farms, these teachers smelt of posh perfume and were always neat and gorgeous. I liked Mussolini quite a lot, as, before, school was men-only, but, Mussolini let women go to school." reported Nina Bastianic to Marko.

But, a certain group of communist people: the partisans, decided to resist the Axis' controlling power. Their leader: Marshal Josip Broz Tito. Below you can find an article which could've been from that time, written by the Underground Partisans.
